I had bought this book just to find out the kind of questions that can be asked at Shell Scripting level of Unix systems administration. I was stunned! Even though, I had studied a large portion of Practical UNIX by Steve Moritsugu, etc. over the years which covered almost all the topics in the Vibrant interview preparatory book and sat with UNIX Systems Admins for first hand interactions in enterprise IT at global data centers owned by global firms and attended innumerable UNIX and Red Hat LINUX trainings with IBM and Oracle. Problem is that though, though, since 2001, when I first got introduced to Sun Solaris UNIX at a private IT training institute and had UNIX installed on my PC at home, helped by a UNIX instructor, who is a senior Oracle DBA Director. Yet, because, I have never really been given opportunity by my employing firms to use the operating system daily as an Oracle DBA or in Java Developer role, I find my skill dexterity in UNIX stale, which necessitates having to be studying all these IT skills again to refresher my memory. Obviously, UNIX Shell scripting is advanced level OS programming than basic command language of file structures and directory manipulating. The UNIX Shell Programming interview book should prove relevant to Senior Oracle DBAs, Systems Administrators and IT Developers.
Initial impression is Impressive.
Contents are good. Im reading this book and will update review soon.
Update :
There are 352 Unix shell interview questions in the book.
Questions for C shell and Bash are segregated into beginner, intermediate and advanced.
Separate chapters are dedicated to questions on theory and practical uses of Commands, Variables, Arrays and special Shell variables. Questions on operators and shell substitutions are also included. Most of the answers are elaborate enough to understand the concepts asked in the questions.
Moreover, it has 75 personality based questions which will be helpful in the HR round of the interview.
I recommend this book
One and only book on UNIX interview preparation. Best for both fresher and experience.
