Editorial Reviews

Excellent writing and format
-- Dr. Benito Garza, South Texas College

This book provides an exploration into how managers and employees work in groups for the completion of organizational objectives. Emphasis is placed on the growing dependency in understanding the behavior and the personality of communities of practice (teams) in the workplace. The book equips students with insights regarding the ability to manage work teams, operate and navigate teams successfully, and to obtain successful results via team dynamics. Researchers tell us that opportunities to succeed need to be more abundant in today’s workplaces; the author of this book is the proverbial knock and invitation for students to open that door.
-- Fernán R. Cepero, Organizational & Global Leader

I have a background in organizational communication, having taught one semester of it. As the title implies, this is an overview of organizational behavior, with quizzes and references for further reading and discussion.

I work for the government which is a massive organization. My previous work experience was in the private sector so going public was a big change for me. I’m young in my career and I work with people twice my age so I am always looking for ways to delicately shake up the work place without ruining our mission. This was a great read with solid information. I’m not going to be able to change the whole government but I’ll try to implement some of the things I’ve learned and also try to keep things I learned about as well.

This book is a great resource for managers, planners and business consultants. Heck, it’s great for every person that works for an organization. Green or seasoned, there’s insight in this book for everyone on topics such as office politics, diversity, effective leading, learning and development, and stress in the workforce. I’m very pleased I picked up a copy of Organizational Behavior Essentials You Always Wanted To Know. If you’re thinking about getting a copy of this book, I highly recommend it.

This serves as a good little primer volume on organizational behavior. The organization is excellent - each chapter begins with an overview of topics to be covered, then addresses the topics and ends with a short summary (followed by a short quiz). The material is presented at a very high level and is geared to only providing an introduction to the material. Although there is a bibliography at the end, i believe the authors would be much better served having a section for "further reading" at the end of each chapter.

As a manager, I have found this book incredibly useful. It is easy to read and is organized into chapters that actually make sense. This is an excellent tool to help manage the workplace, create motivation, increase effective problem solving, and increase productivity in the office. It is also quite useful for inner reflection on what type of manager/leader you currently are, and helps you plan a roadmap to the type of leader you want to be. I highly recommend this to any business professional!
-- Amy Garrett

The content was interesting and covers many business topics. Many of the topics placed responsibility for success on leadership skills of higher management. Development of a proper culture and concern for employees was key. The author includes summaries after each chapter and a set of questions to test your knowledge. The comments seemed to be truisms about influence and power as well as conflict resolution. The need to be able to address change is also a key. I thought the book was well done.
