Editorial Reviews

"Business Intelligence Essentials" employs a clear, structured layout with readable fonts, enhancing technical content digestion. Its strength lies in comprehensive coverage of BI essentials—tools, analytics, implementation—paired with conversational language and practical examples, making complex concepts accessible.

Ideal for professionals, students, and mid-level managers seeking data-driven decision-making skills, it serves as a valuable resource for business analytics courses and organizational training programs. Libraries and startups would also benefit from its actionable insights for scalable BI strategies.

Business Intelligence (BI) has been a critical capability required by all serious organizations for decades, and will be so for decades to come. As the title suggests, this book describes the essential knowledge required to understand the fundamentals of BI. It is a perfect starting point on your learning journey towards becoming a BI professional. I wish I had this book when I was starting my career in data.
-- Scott Ambler

"Business Intelligence Essentials You Always Wanted to Know" is a refreshingly practical guide, perfectly tailored for professionals, students, and business leaders looking to cut through the jargon and genuinely understand BI. The book does a great job simplifying complex concepts without sacrificing depth, and each chapter is thoughtfully designed to build foundational knowledge through real-world examples and clear explanations. Whether you're just starting your BI journey or looking to strengthen your strategic decision-making capabilities, this book provides actionable insights to confidently apply BI in real-world situations.
-- Nicholas Kelly
Author of Delivering Data Analytics and How to Interpret Data, Creator of the Dashboard Wireframe Kit

The book is well laid out, easy to read, and easy to understand. It would provide a good introduction for newcomers to BI and for managers. I like the way each chapter started with a set of key learning objectives and ended with a quiz and a chapter summary. This would make the content useful for a course on these topics.

I also like the way she approaches projects by starting with the desired KPIs. What we find useful is mocking up some data with Excel or even Power BI Desktop to show users what we're talking about and to demonstrate the potential KPIs.

I liked the way the book leaned into prescriptive analytics as well. This is an area that so many books ignore. It was also good to see content on data governance and data quality.
